Purpose Our Bylaws are worded as follows: "The name of this association is The Fellowship of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Its mission is to provide opportunities for creative incentive and sharing in responsibilities for the development of activities in the field of art for its members and to maintain relations with the students of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts". In practice, this statement translates into action as indicated by the following examples of our recent activities: ~ In 2006, The Fellowship awarded well over $10,000 in prizes and financial support. ~ Each January we sponsor the Juried Student Exhibition with an emphasis on hiring jurors that are in a position to help the students with their careers. The success of the most recent show was again evident with the sale of two artworks on opening night and a financial reward for 7 of our students. ~ Each year mentoring of Academy students is available through the opportunity for active involvement in mounting the Annual Members Exhibition. A special thank you goes to Nick Zimbro for all of his effort. ~ Our financial assistance to an artist in need this year was accomplished by augmenting the Cresson Traveling Prize by providing money for food. We also contributed to the exhibition of one of our artists suffering from Alzheimer's disease who is documenting his illness with self portraits. ~ Our efforts to exhibit works from our collection for public viewing (such as a recent exhibition in a corporate center) have resulted in sales of artworks, thereby increasing our available funds held in trust. ~ We have directed artists towards galleries, commissions and other opportunities on numerous occasions. ~ Graduation in May finds us also supporting Academy students with thousands of Fellowship dollars that are distributed by Academy faculty. ~ Finally we have our Annual Membership Show which is open to our family of artists. Our membership dues provide the financial support for this exhibition. Fortunately for our members and through the generosity of others, we distribute in excess of $5,000 in awards and collection purchases at this show. |
